Bargaining Bulletin #2

Bargaining Bulletin #2

Bargaining continues as the two negotiating teams, WUFA's and the employer's continue to exchange proposals this week. The employer has now seen all of our non-monetary proposals, and heard some of our rationale, including important, substantial additions to Article 11, concerning discrimination and harassment. WUFA wants our employer to support and respect our members; one addition reads: "No changes in University policies regarding workplace harassment and sexual misconduct shall be made without the agreement of the Faculty Association" [11.3]. Bargaining Bulletin #3

Bargaining Bulletin #3

Thus far, after nine meetings, bargaining has centred on presentations of bargaining proposals, with a focus on non-monetary aspects of the collective agreement, the submission of information requests and inquiries to the employer — with an eye to seeking more information in order to bolster association rationale for specific contract language. At this point in talks, the administration’s negotiating team has received WUFA’s proposals, and divided them into three categories: those unacceptable to the employer; those that warrant editorial or minor changes; and those believed to have monetary implications. WUFA continues to bargain with the employer as the June 30th deadline for the Collective Agreement looms nearer.

Negotiations pause for conciliator

Negotiations pause for conciliator

At the end of bargaining today, it became apparent to WUFA's Negotiating Team that the Administration’s desire for the assistance of a provincial conciliator has caused bargaining to stagnate. As a result, we have decided to take a brief pause from negotiations to prepare for the arrival of the Conciliator. WUFA’s Team continues to strive for an agreement that is in the best interest of our members.

Bargaining Information Meeting Tuesday July 25th

The administration's premature, 30 June call for conciliation has hampered negotiations, but WUFA is still working [#wufaworkshere is our new hashtag]. Please join your colleagues at our next, important Bargaining Information Meeting, invitation attached, on Tuesday, 25 July 2017, in Toldo, room 102, at noon. There will be drinks and snacks provided, but do BYOL [bring your own lunch] if you wish. Continuing with our commitment to openness, and our theme, "Where We've Been, Where We're Going," plan to attend this meeting in order to hear bargaining updates and news from our negotiation team and the WUFA executive, to add yours to our collective voice, and learn about WUFA's next steps for this round of negotiations. Our national union [CAUT] representative, Chantal Sundaram, will offer some national context for our efforts. Bring a colleague! See you there, Jeff Noonan, President, WUFA
