What is an Employment Equity 'Equity Assessor?" (EE/EA)
Equity Assessors play an important role in the decision-making processes of appointments, promotion, renewal, tenure and permanences committees at the University of Windsor. Their participation ensures fairness and equity in these academic processes, reinforces the equity culture and is central to successfully diversifying the academic community. Equity Assessors monitor and ensure that each committee follows procedures in fairness and equity. Committees that require an EA include, but are not limited to: Appointments - Promotion, Tenure and Renewal - Administrative Searches - UCAPT (University Committee on Academic Promotion and Tenure) - Honorary Degrees - Special Appointments - UCRPPLM University Committee Renewal Promotion Permanence Library Members - URCFW University Review Committee on Faculty Workload - URCLW University Review Committee on Librarian Workloads.
Equity Assessors review materials related to any one of the above committees. This can include CVs, letters of refernce, letters of application, research papers, statement of teachings, nominatin forms, background materials and any other related materials pertaining to a particular committee.
For appointments committees, the Equity Assessors assure a grid is used to rank all candidates at the shortlist stage based on the advertised qualifications. They ensure the committees pay close attention to the four designated group members (aboriginals, visible minorities, women and persons with disabilities), and ensure that any of these groups receive points for their designated status. EQUITY: Working Group on Equity Review: The Rebecca Coulter Report (last updated: January 30, 2007)
Status: In June 2006 Rebecca Coulter presented her findings on the issues surrounding equity on campus to president Ross Paul. The Report was circulated to Senate for their information. The Report was commissioned by the University to have an outside person review the equity progress of the University. Some of the top recommendations were to set timetables and goals for the implementation of equity on campus, and to re-establish the Review Committee on Employment Equity. The University has failed to implement the terms of the Report, as per the 2008 Collective Agreement. WUFA currently has a policy grievance against the Administration for failure to act in this regard.
